Teaching Block

Construction the Teaching Block

In my life time, I should be able to see the launching of a Buddhist University which I aspirated to establish for the past 40 years! In late 2000, the Thais Supreme Patriarch of Anamikaya (below photo right)  had a long chat with Venerable HighSchool08Ongpotjanagongosol (left photo), the General Secretary of Anamikaya cum the Abbot of Wat Thawornwararam (Thaworn Hat Yai Temple) throughout the night, review his disappointment to attain his wish for the past 40 years. Venerable Ongpotjanagongosol, after due consideration, reluctantly forgone his plan to construct a 52 meters high Sakyamuni Buddha statue and steered his entire attention into establishing a Buddhist University.

Due to the economic concussion ever since year 1984, Thailand was unable to resume her past prosperity. Further to this crisis, Southern Thailand also incurred the ravaging of flood in year 2000 and this terrifying flood has smashed almost all tillage of the indigenes for the past ten years. Therefore, it is a real baptism for Venerable to establish a Buddhist University at such a time of extremity.

After the horrifying flood in year 2000, the occurrences of catastrophes as well as contrived disasters in the Southern Thailand were in concatenation. First was the appalling of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE or mad cow disease), Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), and all kinds of pestilent that caused by the poultry. The subsequent attack was the horrendous SARS epidemic. For Southern Thailand who has long relied on the tourism as the main pocketbook, the occurrence of the serial of calamities has actually inflicted heavy financial losses and as a result, tourism in the Southern Thailand was unable to recover after the setback. Unpredictably, when the calamities started to appease in end of year 2003, the Islamic terrorists then started insurgency in the Southern Thailand and the cause of this factitious disaster yielded a fortiori economical paralysis to the Southern Thailand. Only till end of year 2004, this serious problem has then started to tone down a little.

Despite the fact of having had to face with all the above-mentioned adversities, Mahapanya Vidayalai (MPV, University of Wisdom) still managed to cut the buck and was launched in mid 2002. However, for the construction of MPV Teaching Block was not catered for within the initial blue print, the erection of such building has therefore becoming the extreme urgency to cater for the increment of academic staff, students and facilities.

In order to resolve both the financial and spatial problems, the founder of MPV therefore appealing for all the benefactors from the ten directions to partake in this special event hands in hands, help constructing a place that enabling the Sangha students to settle down and to pursuit their further study. This meritorious act is not only the common mission of the Four Varga (includes bhikkhus, bhikkhunis, male and female devotees), but also concerning the development of Buddhism in the Southern Thailand.

Buddha once enquired the Four Vagars: Which is the most meritorious dana (donation)? The answer is not the self-consciousness of how I donate! But to donate with accords to the actual needs of the Sangha, which is most meritorious according to what Lord Buddha has defined.

In this earthly world, resources are limited. With the global economical stagnancy, we must be cautious to our actions. It is a genuine action only to deliver your dana (donation) to where it is of urgency. The construction of MPVs Teaching Block is a great mission for all Buddhists. We earnestly wish that you possess both compassion and sagacity in supporting us and we believe that the development of the Buddhist education in the Southern Thailand will consummate the earliest possible.
